St Leonard, Thorpe, Derbyshire

The church at the entrance to Dovedale has a Norman west tower and nave, and an unfortunate Victorian chancel. Yet another open church, but with the number of walkers and tourists that come here to see Dovedale not surprising. Not a great deal here to detain you long, there is a slim goblet shaped Norman font and C17 Communion Rail. In the sanctuary the remains of a C17 monument with standing figures. I came to Thorpe in 1982 but did the walk up Dovedale and not the church, it was a pleasure to do the church and ignore Dovedale which on a summer Saturday would not be as peaceful an experience as my previous visit. The scenery however is awesome, and you will see a bit of this at my next church.
